World Health Day

April 7 is World Health Day. The purpose of World Health Day is to direct attention to various global challenges for public health. In connection with the day, the annual World Health Report is also usually launched. Around the world, the right to health of millions of people is increasingly threatened. Conflicts cause death, pain, hunger and psychological distress. The burning of fossil fuels is simultaneously driving the climate crisis and taking away our right to breathe clean air, with indoor and outdoor air pollution claiming a life every 5 seconds.

To meet these types of challenges, the theme for World Health Day this year is “My health, my
Right". This year's theme was chosen to fight for the right for everyone to have access to health and
healthcare, education and information as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition,
quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions and freedom from discrimination.
One of Zonta's many projects "Adolescent Girls' Health and Protection" in Peru is currently working
with questions of this kind. The project, which is run through Unicef, aims to support young people
indigenous women in the Peruvian countryside and shall lead to
protective and healthy environments for the girls. One works, among other things, to prevent
teenage pregnancies and address mental health issues. Read more about the project here:
