European cooperation meeting in Copenhagen – for gender equality and inclusion
This weekend, the tenth European Interdistrict Seminar was held for Zonta members in European countries. A total of 300 people gathered to participate in lectures and workshops with the goal of igniting a spark for meaningful change. The subtitle was “Standing up for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion”, concepts that have become more relevant than ever this spring.
In her opening speech, Maria Jose Landeira Oestergaard – former international president of Zonta International – said, among other things:
Standing up for diversity, equity, and inclusion is not just a moral imperative – it is a strategic necessity, a smart thing to do and the right thing to do.
Smart because the business benefits are well documented. Right, because it eliminates discrimination and oppression, advocates for equal opportunities and gender equality and upholds human rights.
In addition to this fiery speech for women's rights, the participants also got to listen to two fantastic speakers. Mads Falkenfleth who talked about the "wellbeing economy" and Muneeza Rosendahl who told how you can reduce minority stress by being an ally to the person who is in the minority. At the end of the weekend, Margareta Munge, governor of Zonta International District 21, announced that the next European Interdistrict Seminar will be held in Gothenburg in 2027. It will be the first time that Sweden has hosted such a meeting, and Munge looks forward to putting Sweden on the map in Zonta's European cooperation.
