World Meteorological Day and Earth Hour
On March 23 each year, World Meteorology Day is observed. The day was established to specifically highlight the important contribution of the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services to the safety and well-being of society. Each year's World Meteorological Day has its own theme that reflects current weather, climate or water-related issues. The theme for 2024 is "At the frontline of climate action". That theme fits well with Zonta International's work within the framework of "Zonta Says Now" to stop negative climate change. Women and girls are more negatively affected than men by the effects of climate change. Raising awareness and educating girls and women and ourselves is therefore fundamental. World Meteorological Day coincides this year with Earth Hour. Earth Hour is a global initiative by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to draw attention to the climate issue. This is done by all of us for one hour (at 20:30-21:30) turning off and turning off as much lighting and electrical equipment as possible.
